Ghent is known for its rich cultural day- and nightlife. Most notorious are the so-called "Gentse Feesten", the "Ghent Festivities". This is a free non-stop ten day party going on in the historical city centre. It offers an overwhelming pallet of theatre, street performance, concerts, parties and of course the obligatory Belgian beers!
Incoming students praise Ghent as a cosy, friendly and active city. It's really hard to get bored here. But every good international student looks beyond the city limits of course. Well, good for you: being only a half hour train ride away from Bruges, Antwerp or Brussels, and with Paris, Amsterdam, Köln and London all in a 300km radius, Ghent is the ideal centre for further exploration of Belgium and central Europe.
